Like a Citadel

There was something that seemed, I don't know . . . fortified (maybe?) about this structure. So sturdy, and yet crumbling.

  1. When travelling through Italy, it became apparent that so many of the villages were founded on the high point of the land. I guess for defence from the marauding hordes.

    Could this have been built on a high point of land and started off with a clear view of the lowlands and only been recently jammed in by other constructions.
