Got a Lot to Say

Graffiti. Today's the day for it at City Daily Photo. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

Typical graffiti in Beirut near AUB. Don't really read Arabic, myself. But the boycott stuff is something I've been hearing a lot about lately. Burger King, Gloria Jeans, H&M are all targets of consumer boycotts because they have opened stores in Israel's illegal settlements. The idea is that global consumer pressure will lead to political changes that will improve the situation of Palestinians.

It's a long shot.

  3. The Arabic part as far as I can see is salaam li-beirut - "greetings from Beirut"

  4. On second thought this might be ambiguous, could be "peace to Beirut" too, of course, ;-)

  5. Thanks, Martina. I've got another graffiti shot with lots of Arabic that I'll post tomorrow. I can't make out a single word (though I've tried) but I liked the presentation, the artistry of it.

  6. The graffiti reads [sa]"lam li beirut"
Which i suppose is a reference to a feyruz song called "li beirut"

The full sentence is "min qalbi salam li beirut" which translates roughly to "from my heart, a salute to beirut"
